Caring for your neck

Your neck is a part of your skin that often shows signs of aging first, and women of a certain age will be keen to give this area some special love and attention to help them continue to feel young and gorgeous.

The skin on your neck and upper chest is different to the skin on your face; it is thinner and not only produces much less oil, but it is often a neglected area. Clothes often expose the neck and chest to daily sun, and whilst we may have remembered to use an SPF on our face, we may forget the neck and chest. Wrinkles, crepiness and discoloured skin all show up sooner on areas that haven’t been so lavishly covered in face cream or protected with sunscreen. It can be hard to repair skin damage to the neck and chest.

The best solution to this problem is to start looking after this area when you are in your 20’s, but unfortunately, at that age, you think you are invincible and carefully applying cream to your neck is not even on your “to do” list. Then in your 30’s you are most likely extremely busy building your career and possibly having babies so you don’t have time to think about it. Then in your 40’s you wake up one morning and look at your neck, and ask yourself, “how the flippin’ ‘eck has THAT happened??”

Here’s the plan:

we should all start with our skincare routine boob-upwards. And whilst we remember to treat our faces with love and care every day, we should also remember to treat the neck and upper chest (or décolletage) every day too. We should gently exfoliate the area with a muslin cloth and use sun protection between April and September. At night, following cleansing, both the neck and chest can be treated to really lovely luxurious formulation to deal with both damaged and aging skin.

So that’s where I come in…I’ve had the unfortunate situation of having quite severe eczema on my neck in the past, which has really damaged my skin there, and so I felt the need to make something very luxurious and deeply hydrating and renewing for this area. Luckily, my favourite part of my line of work is creating new products, so I set about researching what’s out there for necks and what oils and butters would work particularly well. Firstly I found there are no specific neck care products in the natural or organic sector, which is crazy because there are sooo many super-luxurious, skin-repairing oils that will work wonders.

After a good few months of faffing around with new ingredients, including some ingredients we might more commonly associate with eating, I have finally created my fabulous new Superfood Neck Serum! Like most of my products it’s just 100% plant oils, a very simple recipe, but using 6 incredibly powerful ingredients that are cell-regenerating, rich in anti-oxidants and will dramatically improve elasticity and skin tone.

Here’s the details on just some of the superfood ingredients:

Pomegranate oil in Neck Serum

Pomegranate Oil: a recent report “found that Pomegranate oil stimulates ‘keratinocytes’, which are the major cells found in the epidermis (the outer layer of the skin). Helping to regenerate these cells, may actually help to reverse past damage and revive the skin to reveal a fresher and more youthful appearance.”

Hemp seed oil: incredibly high in essential fatty acids: amazingly rich in Omega 3 oils and filled with essential nutrients, it is natures richest source of polyunsaturated fatty acids which are known for their excellent emollient and lubricating properties, they increase the moisture retention of our skin, keeping it soft and supple.

Avocado butter: with high amounts of Vitamin A, B1, B2, D, and E and also contains amino acids, sterols, pantothenic acid, lecithin, and other essential fatty acids it is incredibly healing and regenerating. It is perfect for treating sun, climate or chemical damaged skin that is dehydrated and undernourished. It is reported to help regenerate and rejuvenate the skin as well as soften the skin tissue. Avocado oil is well known as a nutrient for penetrating dry skin and resolving other skin problems.

Meadowfoam oil: made of a 98% long chain fatty acid which has a higher triglyceride level than virtually any other vegetable based oils. It is super rich and provides extra moisturisation and protection, as well as having natural ultraviolet protection.

So all you have to do is gently massage this luxurious serum into your neck and upper chest each night, let it sink in all night long, after a couple of weeks, you should begin to see a big difference in the texture and appearance of your skin.
