Your neck is a part of your skin that often shows signs of aging first, and women of a certain age will be keen to give this area some special love and attention to help them continue to feel young and gorgeous.
The skin on your neck and upper chest is different to the skin on your face; it is thinner and not only produces much less oil, but it is often a neglected area. Clothes often expose the neck and chest to daily sun, and whilst we may have remembered to use an SPF on our face, we may forget the neck and chest. Wrinkles, crepiness and discoloured skin all show up sooner on areas that haven’t been so lavishly covered in face cream or protected with sunscreen. It can be hard to repair skin damage to the neck and chest.
So that’s where I come in…I’ve had the unfortunate situation of having quite severe eczema on my neck in the past, which has really damaged my skin there, and so I felt the need to make something very luxurious and deeply hydrating and renewing for this area. Luckily, my favourite part of my line of work is creating new products, so I set about researching what’s out there for necks and what oils and butters would work particularly well. Firstly I found there are no specific neck care products in the natural or organic sector, which is crazy because there are sooo many super-luxurious, skin-repairing oils that will work wonders.
After a good few months of faffing around with new ingredients, including some ingredients we might more commonly associate with eating, I have created my fabulous new Superfood Neck Serum! Like most of my products it’s just 100% plant oils, a very simple recipe, but using 6 incredibly powerful ingredients that are cell-regenerating, rich in anti-oxidants and will dramatically improve elasticity and skin tone.
Here are the ingredients and why I picked them:
Meadowfoam oil: rejuvenating anti-oxidant, it is made of a 98% long chain fatty acid which has a higher triglyceride level than virtually any other vegetable based oils. This makes it suitable for use in skincare products where moisturisation and protection is needed to the skin. The oil has natural ultraviolet protection and natural properties which make it popular for use in high end anti-aging products.
Olive butter: rich in antioxidants and excellent ingredient in mature skin formulations, traditionally been used in the Meditteranean for its anti-ageing properties, lubricating the skin and improving elasticity and skin tone.
Pomegranate oil: A report in the Journal of Ethnopharmacology found that Pomegranate oil stimulates ‘keratinocytes’, which are the major cells found in the epidermis (the outer layer of the skin). Helping to regenerate these cells may actually help to reverse past damage and revive the skin to reveal a fresher and more youthful appearance. Pomegranate provides hydrating relief to the skin, helping with dry skin, eczema, psoriasis and sunburned skin. Just like the Pomegranate, the oil has high antioxidant content, mainly due to it’s high content of ellagic acid. By fending off damaging free radicals, the oil helps keep the skin looking young and can provide some protection against the sun.
Hempseed oil: the highest oil in essential fatty acids: 75-80% total EFAs. It is amazingly rich in Omega 3 oils and filled with essential nutrients. Organic Hemp oil is natures richest source of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) which are known for their excellent emollient and lubricating properties. PUFAs increase the moisture retention of our skin, keeping it soft and supple. Trapping this moisture strengthens our skin, enhancing our natural defenses against pollution, sun, dry air and excessive use of soaps, gels and other detergents. The essential fatty acids contained in Organic Hemp seed oil have been clinically proven to alleviate or remedy dry skin, minor skin abrasions, acne, eczema and psoriasis. Organic Hemp seed oil has a high content of Vitamin E compound, a natural anti-oxidant that traps excess free radicals which can injure, age degenerate and kill our cells and tissues. The oil itself can also compensate for the lower ceramide levels associated with aging and metabolic slowdown. It is the lowering of these ceramide levels that contribute to the formation or wrinkles and overall skin aging.
Palmarosa: a lovely light floral aromatic oil that revives and uplifts, it helps to maintain a youthful appearance, is replenishing and nourishing. It helps to stimulate skin cell action and regulate the production of sebum levels in the skin. As a result Palmarosa brings moisturise and hydration to the skin and can help with general skin appearance.
Myrrh: promotes a youthful complexion, slows down the signs of aging, works on wrinkles and soothes chapped skin.
Here’s what a happy customer told me
“After only 6 days, using twice a day, I had my regular facial where I have been going for 30 years and the therapist commented on how good my neck was looking and also my chest. The only different thing I had done was to use your neck serum. I was quietly surprised that only 6 days usage had shown such a difference to my neck already. A few days later my daughter in law out of the blue said she hopes her neck looks as good as mine in 30 years time. Two comments in quick succession showed me that it really is the effect of the serum. I now use it with OMG underneath and just in the evenings.”
“The neck serum has definitely improved the texture of the skin on my chest & neck.”
