Do you ever get rough or bumpy skin on your cheeks, not spots exactly, but little dry, rough bits? It’s really common, and easy to sort out.
Usually it is just a build up of dead skin cells. I noticed them on my teenage son’s cheeks recently, because he doesn’t wash his face very much; he just splashes it with water when he’s in the shower, and this doesn’t remove any dead skin cells.
How to get rid of them
You can usually sort it by massaging in a little organic oil (I would recommend my Organic Calendula Oil or my Very Calm Organic Face Balm) whilst your face is dry, then thoroughly moisten one of my organic muslin face cloths with warm water (not too hot). Wring it out so it is just damp, and then gently remove the oil using small circular motions, so that you are very gently exfoliating your skin, whilst adding some moisture.
When you have removed the oil or balm, pat your face dry with a clean towel (towel and cloth hygiene are really important) and then massage in a little bit of moisturiser or serum or oil. I would recommend either the Very Calm Organic Face Balm, already mentioned – it’s a great dual purpose product, or try my Superfruit Organic Face Oil. Then leave it. You should notice a huge improvement to the rough bumpy skin on your cheeks within just a few days.
Don’t be temped to use a gritty exfoliating product, they really scratch and damage the surface of your skin, making any skin texture issues much worse.
Rosacea?
If you are getting lots of dryness, redness and little sore spots, you might have rosacea, and you should read this blog as you will need to take a different route to helping your skin.
Bumps and roughness on the cheeks are more likely to occur when you use non-natural products and particularly cheap skincare products that contain petro-chemicals, because they block up your pores. So always opt for natural, if you can.
Using a harsh soap will also make them worse, as these will dry out your skin. Cleansing using either a really gentle soap (like my Scratchy Soap) or any organic oil will help loads. Don’t be tempted to just use shower gel when in the shower, it contains too many drying ingredients like sulphates (SLS). You can read a bit more about sulphates here, they are terrible things, except in car wash and washing up liquid!
Do you get really bumpy skin on your upper arms too? You can read more about bumpy skin on the arms and thighs in my blog on Keratosis Pilaris here.
